Brasília, May 28, 2025 — The Defense Logistics Systems Support Center (Caslode), under Brazil’s Ministry of Defense, has announced that the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft has been officially recognized by the NATO Allied Committee 135 (AC/135) — the Cataloging Committee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This body standardizes the identification of materials and equipment used by the armed forces of NATO member countries.

Following its approval by the committee, the aircraft will now use the NATO Codification System (NCS) code to identify and catalog the project. This also enables the exchange of information and logistical interoperability with other NATO members.

The aircraft has been included in the Codification Support Publication (CodSP) No. 24, one of the technical documents supervised by the committee. The A-29 joins NATO’s list of projects of significance, alongside Brazil’s KC-390 aircraft project, which was the first successful case from Brazil’s Defense Industrial Base (BID) to be recognized by NATO countries.

According to Commander Alessander de Paiva Nunes, Head of the Cataloging Section at Caslode, “This new initiative, in collaboration with the individual branches of the Armed Forces and the Defense Industrial Base, once again demonstrates the excellence in project management and the quality of Brazil’s national defense products and systems. It also helps promote our country abroad, with the aim of boosting exports, generating jobs and income, among other factors that contribute to Brazil’s development,” he emphasized.

The A-29 Super Tucano is a modern aircraft used for fighter pilot training and light attack missions. Developed in the 1990s by Embraer, it is currently employed by the Brazilian Air Force in various air security operations.
