Embraer announces new subsidiary and strengthens commitment to India

Embraer - India Expansion

New subsidiary with corporate office marks Embraer’s expanded presence in India and pursuit of opportunities in defense, commercial aviation, executive aviation, and services & support sectors

New Delhi, India, May 30, 2025 – Embraer (NYSE: ERJ / B3: EMBR3), one of the world’s leading aerospace companies, announced today a significant reinforcement of its commitment to India through the establishment of a subsidiary in the country, headquartered in a corporate office located in AeroCity, New Delhi. This strategic decision underscores Embraer’s long-term vision for growth and potential collaboration within India’s rapidly evolving aerospace and defense landscape.

Establishing the Indian subsidiary aims to strengthen Embraer’s footprint across defense, commercial aviation, executive aviation, services & support, and the emerging urban air mobility sector. The company is actively expanding its team in India, building capacity to pursue opportunities in the constantly evolving aerospace and defense sector. This includes the formation of corporate teams and specialized departments focused on procurement, supply chain, and engineering.

“India is a key market for Embraer, and this expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to the country,” said Embraer’s President and CEO, Francisco Gomes Neto. “We are excited to deepen our collaboration with the Indian aerospace and defense industry, leveraging our expertise and technology to support the country’s growth and the ambitions of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. We see significant opportunities in defense, commercial and executive aviation, services & support, and the emerging urban air mobility sector.”

Embraer is significantly increasing its engagement in India, where it already has a notable presence with approximately 50 aircraft and 11 different models operating across the commercial, defense, and executive aviation segments — all supported by a local services and support network.

Embraer’s growth in India also highlights the strengthening ties between Brazil and India, with the company’s regional expansion reflecting a shared commitment to deeper collaboration and mutual growth. Embraer’s involvement in India — including its participation in the upcoming IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025 in New Delhi — reinforces its strategic focus on the Indian market and its ongoing efforts to engage with key stakeholders across the aviation ecosystem.

This announcement follows recent strategic initiatives by Embraer in India, such as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2024 with Mahindra Defence Systems. The agreement outlines potential joint participation in the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program via the C-390 Millennium.

The C-390 is a state-of-the-art multi-mission aircraft designed and built to meet the demands of 21st-century operational environments. It is the most advanced in its class, flying faster (470 knots), with greater range, and carrying more payload (26 tonnes) than other medium-sized military transport aircraft. The C-390 has been operating for several years with Full Operational Capability and can perform a wide range of missions, including cargo and troop transport and air drop, medevac, search and rescue, humanitarian missions, firefighting, and aerial refueling — both as a tanker and as a receiver.

In commercial aviation, the E-Jets family of regional narrowbody jets offers major advantages for India’s air connectivity. These aircraft open up new opportunities in both metropolitan hubs and underserved regional centers, supporting India’s aspirations to become a global aviation hub.

The E-Jets have already improved regional connectivity, as demonstrated by Star Air — an operator of Embraer’s E175 and ERJ145 models. E-Jets offer extended range compared to turboprops and other sub-180 seat narrowbody aircraft. This enables Indian airlines to maximize regional route expansion and better meet demand on low-density routes.

Embraer aircraft operated by Indian forces include the Legacy 600, used for government and VIP transport by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Border Security Force (BSF), and the AEW&C ‘Netra’ aircraft, based on the Embraer ERJ145 platform and operated by the IAF.
