Ukraine has reportedly launched one of the most damaging drone attacks of the war, targeting four Russian airbases in a bold daylight operation that struck deep into Russian territory.
According to Ukrainian sources, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) coordinated the sabotage operation, hitting 41 Russian military aircraft, including strategic Tu-95 bombers and transport planes. The strike is being called one of the most significant blows to Russia’s strategic nuclear forces in terms of cost and operational impact.
The operation began with SBU agents covertly transporting 150 small attack drones and 300 munitions into Russian territory. A total of 116 drones were launched, many equipped with autonomous target guidance systems. The drones were launched from mobile platforms near key Russian airbases, using Russian telecom networks for control and real-time data transmission.
In an unprecedented move, the drones attacked during daylight hours, catching Russian forces off guard. Moscow had reportedly expected nighttime raids by larger UAVs, not a coordinated swarm of small quadcopters striking from close range.

The most effective strike occurred at Olenya Airbase, where several Tu-95 bombers were destroyed after drones ignited fully-fueled tanks, causing massive explosions. Satellite imagery is being used to confirm the extent of the destruction.
