U.S. approves $510 million sale of precision munitions guidance kits to Israel
Washington, June 30, 2025 — The U.S. State Department has given the green light for a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Israel, involving precision-guidance kits for bombs and associated support services, valued at approximately $510 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) formally notified Congress of the proposed deal earlier today.
Under the agreement, Israel has requested to purchase 3,845 KMU-558B/B Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits designed for the BLU-109 bomb bodies, as well as 3,280 KMU-572 F/B JDAM guidance kits intended for MK 82 bombs. The package also includes a range of non-major defense equipment (non-MDE) items such as engineering, logistics, and technical support services provided by both U.S. government and contractor personnel.
According to the State Department, the sale aligns with U.S. interests in bolstering Israel’s security and maintaining a robust Israeli self-defense capability, which Washington deems critical for regional stability. “This proposed sale will enhance Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats by improving its ability to defend its borders, vital infrastructure, and population centers,” the DSCA said in a statement.
The deal also aims to improve interoperability between Israeli and U.S. forces, reinforcing bilateral defense ties and demonstrating America’s commitment to Israel’s military modernization. U.S. officials emphasized that the sale would not alter the fundamental military balance in the Middle East.
The Boeing Company, based in St. Charles, Missouri, will be the primary contractor for the guidance kits. Some of the required JDAM kits could be sourced from existing U.S. government stockpiles, although no offset agreements have yet been proposed as part of the transaction. Any potential offset arrangements would be negotiated directly between Israel and Boeing.
Implementation of the sale will not require additional U.S. government or contractor personnel to be stationed in Israel, and officials confirmed there would be no negative impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of fulfilling the order.
This latest arms transaction highlights Washington’s continued support for Israel amid regional tensions, ensuring that the Israeli Defense Forces remain equipped with advanced precision-strike capabilities for future operations.
