UK and Türkiye Sign £5.4 Billion Deal for 20 Eurofighter Typhoons

The UK Government has announced an agreement worth approximately £5.4 billion with the Republic of Türkiye for the acquisition of 20 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, along with a comprehensive weapons and systems-integration package. The programme will sustain more than 20,000 highly skilled jobs across the UK’s aerospace and defence supply chain.

Under the terms of the agreement, BAE Systems will be responsible for manufacturing major airframe sections, performing final assembly of the aircraft, and leading the weapons integration work at its facilities in Lancashire. This effort will generate activity for hundreds of UK companies involved in the Typhoon industrial network. The weapons package will be supplied primarily by MBDA, Europe’s leading missile manufacturer.

With this acquisition, the Turkish Air Force becomes the tenth operator of the Typhoon, reinforcing the aircraft’s role as a key platform in modern air defence missions worldwide.

BAE Systems Chief Executive, Charles Woodburn, highlighted that Türkiye’s selection of the Typhoon marks an important new phase in the long-standing relationship between both countries. He emphasized that the decision demonstrates the aircraft’s strong operational performance across Europe and the Middle East, and its importance as a core element of NATO’s collective defence.

Woodburn also noted that the contract represents a major export success for the UK: investment in the Typhoon programme continues to support national sovereign capabilities, sustain economic growth, and preserve critical engineering and manufacturing skills essential to the UK’s long-term defence and security.
